History
The Institute of History and Socio-Legal Education named after E. Zh. Maanaev was founded on January 9, 1999 (Protocol No. 4 of the Academic Council of the KSU named after I. Arabaev) as an independent structure.
The Institute of History and Socio-Legal Education named after E. Zh. Maanaev went through several stages: first, the Department of Training Public Specialists, then the center, faculty and institute. The Institute was headed by: - E. Zh. Maanaev (1999-2009), N.S. Usupova (2009-2010), G.D. Kurumbaeva (2010-2014), N.U. Kurbanova (2014-2023). Since 2023, Ch. U. Koichumanova, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic has been the head of the Institute.
By Resolution No. 26 of the Academic Council of the KSU named after I. Arabaev dated January 31, 2016, the institute was named after Egemberdi Zhumagulovich Maanaev Doctor of Sciences (History), Professor (Order No. 01-8/36 dated 02/06/2014).

Since 2004, the Institute has been offering 4-year bachelor's and 2-year master's degree programs. The Institute trains specialists in a 4-year bachelor's degree program on a budget basis. Initially, the institute had majors of History, Legal Studies, Economics and Cultural Studies, Socio-economic Education, and in 2023 the specialty Legal Studies and majors Secondary Vocational Education, History, International Relations, State and Municipal Management, Jurisprudence were introduced. The Institute is a leading part of university in terms of the quality of its teaching staff. At the end of 2023 and 2024, the Institute won the Best University Unit nomination twice.

Accomplishments and Achievements
The Institute of History and Social-Legal Education named after E. Zh. Maanaev won the title of the best institute of KSU named after I. Arabaev following the results of the 2022-2023, 2023-2024 academic year.
The quality of the Institute's teaching staff is 80%. Currently, the Institute employs 1 corresponding member, 10 doctors of sciences, 33 candidates of sciences.
The lecturers of the Institute are the authors of the subjects History, History of the development of religions in secondary schools, textbooks for universities on history and methods of teaching it.

KYRGYZSTAN HISTORY AND ETHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT
Kyrgyzstan History and Ethnology Department of the Institute of History and Socio-Legal Education named after E. Zh. Maanaev has been working since 1999 in the field of National History, ethnology, anthropology and training of scientific specialists in history.
The teaching staff of the department give instruction in bachelor, master, PhD programs. In addition, the department includes 07.00.02 postgraduate students and doctoral students in the National History. Since the academic year 2023-2024, the PhD program has been working, and 11 doctoral students are currently studying.
At present the Department employs: A.A. Asankanov, academician; Ch.U. Koichumanova, Corresponding Member; professors: K. Aidarkul, N.U. Kurbanova, J.B. Alymbaev, A.R. Zhoshbekova, S.K. Alymkulova, Candidates of History, associate professors: Zh.D. Samieva, G.K. Zhyrgalbekova, S.U. Asekova, A. Aytymbet k., B.Y. Kozhomuratova, lecturers: Ch. Amantur u., G.E. Karybekova, R.T. Elemanova and others.
Among the teaching staff of the department, the academician A.A. Asankanov, who conducted research in the field of history, ethnology, ethnosociology, anthropology of Kyrgyzstan, and trained several doctors and candidates of historical sciences.
Ch. U. Koichumanova, Corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, managed to create her own research school, conducting research on the modern history of Kyrgyzstan in a new direction. Her works were among the leading, modern monographs on the modern history of Kyrgyzstan. Based on her research, she lectures annually at universities outside Kyrgyzstan, in China, Russia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan.
Professor, Doctor of Sciences (History) E.Zh. Maanaev, who devoted his life to science, wrote monographs on the topics of history, ethnography, ethnology, ideology of Kyrgyzstan, worked at the department for many years. His research is assessed as a great contribution to the historical science of Kyrgyzstan. E.Zh. Maanaev was the scientific supervisor of most of the teaching staff of the Institute of History and Socio-Legal Education founded by him.
Professor A.R. Zhoshbekova's studies of ethno-demographic processes are developing a separate direction in the science of Kyrgyz ethnosociology. Prof. Zh.B. Alymbaev's long-term historiographical research innovatively reveals the history of Kyrgyzstan in the 19th century. Prof. Kaana Aidarkul is known for her scientific works in the field of international relations of Kyrgyz and Kyrgyzstan, as well as in the field of law enforcement in Kyrgyzstan. Prof. N.U. Kurbanova has created her own school of religious studies in Kyrgyzstan and elaborated textbooks on the subject History of development of religions for secondary schools in Kyrgyzstan. Prof. S.K. Alymkulova's works have been published not only in Kyrgyzstan, but also in other countries; her ethnographic and ethnological studies attract the attention of scientists from all over the world.
The works of Zh.D. Samieva, associate professor, are devoted to statehood, the intelligentsia of Kyrgyzstan in the Soviet period; the works of S.U. Asekova, associate professor, on victims of repression have become the leading research works on the history of Kyrgyz statehood.
Moreover, B.Zh. Kozhomuratova, associate professor; Alykulova G.K., associate professor; K. A. Aitymbet, lecturers U. Ch. Amantur, G.E. Karybekova, R.E. Elemanova conduct research in the field of history and ethnology of Kyrgyzstan.
GENERAL HISTORY AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS DEPARTMENT
The General History and International Relations Department of the Institute of History and Socio-Legal Education named after E. Zh. Maanaev has been functioning since 1999 as a department for the study of world history, social work, international relations and other historical disciplines.
The teaching staff of the department is one of the leading teams of the university.

Professor N.S. Usupova, Doctor of Sciences (History), is a specialist in the ancient world history and has devoted her research to the education, history and social status of Kyrgyzstan. Under her guidance, two lecturers of the department, Zh.D. Abdraeva and K.A. Kurmanaliev, successfully defended their scientific works.
G.K. Jyrgalbekova devoted her whole life to the methodology of history teaching, developed textbooks on the subject of history of Kyrgyzstan. She devoted her research to the history of education in Kyrgyzstan.
A.K. Bekboeva, the Head of the Department and Ch. Zh. Karasartova, associate professor, are the authors of a schools textbook on the History of development of religions. In addition, they are elaborating textbooks for students on social work, international relations, and religious studies.
K.A. Kurmanaliev, acting associate professor, has prepared textbooks on the history of Kyrgyzstan, history of early society, manuals on methods of teaching history using innovative methods. These works are devoted to modern education of students. K.A. Kurmanaliev is also the author of methodological works on preparing students for National Testing and the olympiad.
I. Temirbek uulu, publishes textbooks on museology, archival studies thanks to many years of experience in museum work. He is the creator of modern museums of the republic. Under his guidance in 2022 the museum of KSU named after I. Arabaev started working again.
STATE AND LEGAL THEORY DEPARTMENT
The State and Legal Theory Department of the Institute of History and Socio-Legal Education named after E. Zh. Maanaev Department started working in 2024 in order to train specialists in state and municipal administration, jurisprudence.
The teaching staff of the Department is made up of people with an innovative point of view, taking into account the perspective and the specificity of the majors jurisprudence and the state and municipal administration. The main objectives of the Department are to study the foundations of the theory of the state and law, to analyze contemporary problems, to conduct scientific work on the constitutional system, legislative and legal reform, to provide legal and political knowledge and in-depth training of students in public administration, legal policy, human rights, to improve the legal culture of students, to form social responsibility and morality. Therefore, broad research plans are designed from a new perspective.

PHILOSOPHY AND HUMANITIES DEPARTMENT
In order to optimize the educational process at the University, the Philosophy and Humanities Department has been organized. The Department conducts courses on Philosophy, Concepts of Modern Natural Science, Ethics, Cultural Studies for Bachelor's Degree and Philosophical Problems of Education, Methods and Methodology of Scientific Cognition for Master's Degree. At present, the Department as an educational and methodical unit of the University contributes significantly to the training of specialists. In 2002-2005 the Department was headed by A.A. Bekboev, Doctor of Sciences (Philosophy), Professor, in 2005-2013 by M.M. Amerdinova, Doctor of Sciences (Philosophy), Professor, in 2013-2024 by Zh. S. Arzymatov, Candidate of Philosophy, Associate Professor. Since 2024 the head of the department is D.A. Kochkorova, Candidate of Philosophy. The teaching staff of the department: D.A. SECONDARY VOCATIONAL EDUCATION DIVISION (COLLEGE)
The Secondary Vocational Education Division of the Institute of History and Socio-Legal Education named after E. Zh. Maanaev is a department of secondary professional education. Its specialization is Jurisprudence.
In the 2023-2024 academic year the graduates of the Division received the diploma of secondary vocational education of the state standard with the qualification Lawyer. About 40 experienced lecturers work in the Secondary Vocational Education Division.

Students’ life
The students of the Institute of History and Socio-Legal Education named after E. Zh. Maanaev are active students of the university. The student government of the institute is formed annually and works according to the corresponding plan.
To date, 6 students of the Institute are holders of the scholarship of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic. They are Dastan Razak uulu, Shaanigul Rakhimbekova, Elizat Monoldorova, Dastan Abdyramanov, Stalbek Bekbolotov, Kaliman Sharshenbekova.
Daniyar Bekishov, a student of the Institute, is the head of the youth center League of Enlightenment in Kyrgyzstan. Every year he organizes large events on a republican scale.
The student club Bilge has been active at the institute for 10 years. There is a group of dancers consisting of girls. Every year students organize a charity event From Heart to Heart. The students are regular participants of the events of Youth Forum in Kyrgyzstan. On behalf of the K. Adenauer Foundation they receive an annual scholarship.
Material and Technical Facilities
The institute is located on the 4th floor of the 4th academic building. The total number of students is 1200. For students, there is 1 computer lab with 25 computers, 2 interactive screens, 2 interactive panels, 1 TV screen, 3 overhead projectors and 6 laptops.
