FACULTY OF RUSSIAN PHILOLOGY
History
In 1952, the Russian Language and Literature Department of the Philology Faculty was established at the Kyrgyz Women's Pedagogical Institute. Kyrgyz girls who did not speak Russian were accepted to the department. In these conditions, careful teaching work was required, curricula were changed, and original special courses were introduced: "Methods of teaching Russian language and Russian literature in a Kyrgyz school", "Comparative Russian and Kyrgyz languages grammar study." The special courses were taught by Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz SSR, Professor Igor Batmanov, who played a major role in training Russian language teachers and Russian scientists in the republic.
Since the establishment of the Institute and until 1954, Konstantin Yudakhin, a prominent Turkologist, professor, Doctor of Philology, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz SSR, worked at the Russian Language Department of the Kyrgyz Women's Pedagogical Institute. His lectures, based on his deep knowledge of the Kyrgyz language, aroused constant interest among students. His academic work of many years “Kyrgyz-Russian Dictionary”, which was awarded the USSR State Prize, is an invaluable contribution to Kyrgyz lexicography and is constantly used in the practice of teaching Russian in Kyrgyz schools, and serves as an invaluable aid in the studies of our students.
In 1952, the Philology Faculty had two departments: the Russian Language Department (head of department – Candidate of Philological Sciences L. V. Batmanova) and the Russian Literature Department (head of department – Associate Professor D. L. Brudny). Experienced lecturers A. I. Efimenko, A. I. Bakurova, A. I. Sergeeva, M. T. Zaitseva, S. I. Alyshbayeva, G. I. Korotenko, M. I. Panaeva and others taught at the departments. Among those who defended their candidate theses during that period were E. N. Lukoyanova, G. I. Korotenko, S. G. Lebedeva, R. Sh. Tabaeva, V. A. Shcherbakov, K. H. Dzhideeva, N. L. Khmelnitskaya, V. P. Kaipova, L. L. Voityuk, V. P. Kim, and others.
The head of the Russian Language Department, and later associate professor of this department, L. V. Batmanova, is a veteran of the university, for her active training she was awarded the title of "Honored Teacher of the Kyrgyz SSR". G. I. Korotenko was awarded the highest government Order of the Badge of Honor The work of teachers S. G. Lebedeva and K. H. Dzhideeva was awarded with Certificates of Honor from the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz SSR.
From 1956 to 1981, the faculty graduated more than 1,400 teachers of the Russian language and literature, who work throughout the republic. Famous Kyrgyz poetesses S. Abdykadyrova, M. Abylkasymova, and leading political party officials J. Mambetova, L. Karshanbaeva graduated from this faculty. 17 graduates of the Philology Faculty – A. Zhafarova, G. Ayilchieva, D. A. Begeeva, N. Imankalieva and others – successfully work in scientific research institutions and institutes of the republic.
43 teachers worked at 3 departments of the Philology Faculty, including 1 professor, head of the Russian and Foreign Literature Department K. H. Dzhideeva and 15 candidates of sciences: E. N. Lukoyanova, V. M. Ozmitel, F. H. Makeeva, A. S. Katsev, H. M. Mukhametdinova, V. P. Kim, A. E. Erkebaev, G. I. Korotenko, K. S. Chonbashev, N. L. Khmelnitskaya, L. M. Popova, A. S. Bondareva, V. P. Kaipov and others.
The Russian Language Theory and History Department (head, senior lecturer M. I. Zadorozhny). The department employed 10 lecturers, including 2 associate professors – G. I. Korotenko and K. S. Chonbashev, teachers S. G. Sharafutdinova, E. M. Kuzicheva, Z. M. Dzhamasheva, and others.
The Russian Language Methodology Department (head, Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor N. L. Khmelnitskaya). 12 lecturers worked at the department, among them 4 candidates of sciences: L. M. Popova, A. S. Bondareva, V. I. Kaipov, experienced lecturers L. N. Tursunova, S. L. Berger and others.
Since 2006, the Russian Language and Literature Department has been part of I.Arabaev KSU Humanities Institute. The head of the department is Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor Apysheva S. Sh. 14 lecturers worked at the department, among them 2 doctors of philology – Prof. I. D. Lailieva, G. M. Murzakhmedova, 4 candidates of sciences – E. M. Kuzicheva, associate professor A. K. Isaeva, T. U. Ukubaev, experienced Senior Lecturers S. M. Yuburova, A. T. Musaeva, N. A. Tolanov, K. B. Azhigulova, Zh. Yu. Tokombaeva, N. K. Kalenderova, T. K. Alybaeva, A. Karmyshakova.
From 2013-2014, Head of the Department, Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor A. O. Karymshakov, 2015-2016 Head of the Department, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor M. H. Since 2024, the Russian Philology Faculty is a separate structure with two departments: the Russian Language and Literature Teaching Theory and Methodology Department; the Russian Language Practical Course Department.
Currently, the dean of the Russian Philology Faculty is Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor N. K. Segizbayeva
Russian Language and Literature Teaching Theory and Methodology Department currently trains specialists in the area of "Philological Education" and "Teaching Russian Language and Literature", executing the state educational order. Under the leadership of the head of the department, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor G. S. Tagayeva, 3 Doctors of Sciences: N. B. Khasanov, N. O. Narynbayeva, N. M. Koichumanova; 5 candidates of sciences: S. Sh. Apysheva, N. K. Abdygazieva, N. K. Segizbaeva, Zh. A. Arstanbekova, G. Zh. Bilbaeva; 4 senior lecturers: S. M. Yuburova, J. Y. Tokombaeva, N. K. Kalenderova, T.K. Alybayeva; 2 young lecturers: E. T. Koeshova, A. E. Osmonakunov are successfully working.
By the end of 2024, the department became the winner in the "Best Department" nomination and was awarded a III degree diploma.
Russian Language Practical Course Department was founded in 1967 based on the Russian Language Theory and Practice Department, and in 1975 it was separated into an independent department. Until 2023, it was directly subordinate to the university (institute).
Over the years, the department was headed by J. K. Dzhantosheva (1970-1980), Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor R. G. Usenbaeva (1980-1988), Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor A. S. Bondareva (1988-1993), Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor K. S. Sartbaeva (1988-1993), Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor S. M. Isaeva (1993-1995), Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor R. T. Satylganova (1986-2015), Associate Professor A. A. Abdykalykova (2015-2016), Associate Professor T. T. Shamurzaeva (2016-2024).
Experienced teachers also worked in the department: R. S. Sadybakasova, R. Z. Zabirova, N. A. Bakirova, L. V. Nesterenko, A. I. Akhunbaeva, H. K. Kazakbaeva and others.
The main goal of the department is teaching Russian to students of non-philological area in accordance with the state educational standard; forming their language competencies, oral and written speech; developing skills in compiling texts and using the Russian language in professional activities.

Russian Philology Faculty Educational Programs
Russian Philology Faculty offers a wide range of educational programs in the area of “Philology” and in the speciality “Russian Language and Literature”. The training takes place at different levels: bachelor's, master's, postgraduate (PhD), which allows students to study the language, literature and teaching methods in depth.
Bachelor's Degree. Undergraduate students gain fundamental knowledge in the field of:
✔ The Russian language and its structures (phonetics, morphology, syntax, stylistics).
✔ Literature of different periods (classical, modern, foreign literature in Russian translation).
✔ Linguistics and Intercultural communication.
✔ Methods of teaching Russian as native and foreign language.
✔ Editorial work and textology.
After completing their bachelor's degree, graduates can work in education, media, publishing, scientific and cultural activities.
Master’s degree. The Master's degree program deepens knowledge in the field of philology and offers specializations related to:
📌 Modern Linguistics and cognitive research.
📌 Literary criticism and literary text analysis.
📌 Teaching Russian language and literature in schools and universities.
📌 The Russian language in intercultural communication.
The Master's degree provides an opportunity to work in higher academic positions, as well as engage in research activities.
Postgraduate studies (PhD). The PhD/Postgraduate program is designed for those who want to devote themselves to science and earn a PhD in philology. The main research areas include:
📖 Theoretical and applied linguistics.
📖 The history and theory of literature.
📖 Sociolinguistics and psycholinguistics.
📖 Methodology of teaching Russian language and literature.
Graduate students conduct scientific research, publish articles in leading journals, and participate in international conferences.
The Russian Philology Faculty trains highly qualified specialists who can work in education, science, journalism, culture and other fields related to language and literature.
Scientific activity of the Russian Philology Faculty
In 2024, the staff of the Department of Theory and Methodology of Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language were actively engaged in scientific research and methodological work. The main achievements are presented in the following categories:

In 2024, the staff of the Russian Language and Literature Teaching Theory and Methodology Department actively published scientific papers, including 1 monograph, 1 teaching manual and 60 scientific articles, including international publications indexed in Scopus and Web of Science.
Scientific events
The Russian Philology Faculty has organized several major conferences: the International Scientific and Practical Conference dedicated to Professor K. D. Dobaev (September 20, 2024); the conference "Current Issues of Scientific Research Development" (November 21, 2024); the forum "Debut in the profession" (October 16, 2024).
Faculty lecturers actively participated in conferences, round tables and seminars in Kyrgyzstan (10 events), including guest lectures and trainings; abroad (3 international conferences), articles were published in foreign scientific journals.
The scientific activity of the Russian Philology Faculty is actively developing. Lecturers publish articles and monographs, participate in international conferences, and organize their own scientific events. In the future, the department plans to expand cooperation with foreign universities and develop new research areas.
Russian Philology Faculty today. International cooperation.
Starting from September 1, 2023, to optimize the educational process and improve the quality of training specialists in the field of philology, the Russian Philology Faculty was based on the State Language and Culture Institute. This decision is aimed at improving educational programs, expanding research activities and improving the level of education of students in the area of Philology and the specialty of Russian Language and Literature. Since September 1, 2024, the Russian Philology Faculty has been functioning as an independent structural unit. The dean of the faculty is Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Nazgul Segizbayeva, who actively develops international relations, ensuring high quality of the educational process.
At the end of 2024, the faculty was awarded the first degree award in the nomination "the Best Faculty".

The Russian Philology Faculty plays an important role in training highly qualified specialists with professional and social competencies, proficient in modern innovative technologies, able to adapt to various conditions and compete internationally. As part of its mission, the faculty implements academic mobility programs and actively participates in educational and scientific initiatives.
Student life and clubs at the Russian Philology Faculty
Student life at the Russian Philology Faculty is rich and diverse. In addition to academic activities, students actively participate in cultural and scientific events, creative contests, conferences, and extracurricular initiatives.
One of the most prominent student associations is the theater club on Dzerzhinka. It is a space for creative expression where students develop their acting skills, learn stage speaking, and participate in productions of classical and modern plays. The theater allows them not only to discover talent, but also to immerse themselves deeper into Russian literature and culture.

The material and technical facilities of the Russian Philology Faculty
